Rio Grande Zoo & Sadie's

We decided to take a quick weekend trip down to Albuquerque.  There's a bunch of places we want to check out - so today we decided to go to the Rio Grande Zoo.  I am SO impressed!  They had tons of animals, it was really clean and kid friendly (you'd hope all zoos are - but some are questionable).
They had different areas through out the zoo - so you saw LOTS of animals and a good variety.  This is the Rainforest area...and it FELT like a rainforest!
They had murals painted in different areas.  This is right outside of the reptile house
 and this is right inside.

They had 2 HUGE crocodiles on display - they were really cool!
Here's a  diagram of a 13' croc - Aid wanted to see how he measured up :)

Ash was so funny!  He was growling at the Mountain Lions!
We stopped half way though and ate some lunch.  The place we decided to eat had Peacocks that just walked around!  They would come right next to your chair and just hang out!

Afterward we let the kids run around on this big grassy area.  Ash LOVED chasing the ducks - and almost fell into the duck pond!  He has NO fear when it comes to water - it scared me to death!

They also had lots of really awesome custom made sculptures and chairs.
And this awesome stained glass window outside of the amphibian displays.
In the middle of the zoo they had this really fun playground!

You can't really see them, but Aiden's FAVORITE animal to see at the zoo is the Giraffes.  He could look at them all day (his words haha)
He likes the zebras too
Here he is pretending to be a bear

We really loved the zoo!  They say to plan for 2-3 hours...I would say that would be if you were rushing through!  We were there for 4 and 1/2 hours - and we rushed at the end!  We can't wait to go again!

Sadie's in Albuquerque

We went out to eat at a place called Sadie's.  It was on Travel Channel - we LOVE going to eat at places that are featured on different shows!  This was SO worth going to!!
I got the Stuffed Sopapilla - and it was HUGE!!!  Now, I LOVE Mexican food (this is technically New Mexican food) but I have found that Mexican food here is quite a bit more spicy than I am used to - but smother it in Sour Cream and Guac and it's AMAZING!!!  Also, everywhere down here asks if you want "Red or Green" - this is talking about the pepper meat sauce - and green is the HOT on - so I always go Red.  It has some kick but won't burn your face off :)
Ash was so funny!  Ry wasn't paying attention and he ate a spoonful of salsa - it was SO hot (full of New Mexico green peppers!) and he was spitting everywhere and wiping his tongue with a napkin!  Poor guy!!  Once he got some fritas and sopapilla he was happy as can be :)

Tomorrow we're checking out Old Town (it's across the street from our hotel - so that's nice!) and the Aquarium here!  Obviously we'll be doing some shopping also!  I'll update as soon as I can!!  I hope everyone is having a FABULOUS first weekend of November - and remember to change your clocks at 2 am!!  (unless you're my family or friends in Arizona :)  ....)

That really does look like a fabulous zoo! I'm impressed! And so funny about Asher eating the salsa...and sad too. ;)

The pic of the green snake looks all professional. The zoo itself looks so awesome! How does it compare to the Hogle Zoo? My other sister Julee always goes to the zoo for her birthday in May, and Devan hates it so much that he just won't go anymore! LOL
The polar bear pic looks like maybe he's mid-roar...? Or yawn...? :) Nice timing!
Do you guys get ice storms out there in the wintertime, or is the weather fairly consistent throughout the year?
Love you!
